Junior Software Developer - Mission Control

About the Role

Solace Mission Control is the control plane of Solace Cloud: it provisions, updates, monitors, and operates event broker services for enterprise customers across public clouds and, increasingly, customer-managed environments. As a Junior Software Developer on the Mission Control squad, you'll build the APIs and operational tooling that keep thousands of production event brokers healthy — and you'll do it on a team that works AI-native, with agentic coding tools embedded in the daily workflow.

What You'll Do

• Build and improve backend features in our Java microservices — REST APIs for broker service lifecycle, certificate management, DNS, and broker configuration
• Contribute to the front-end of our operations console as we modernize it with React micro-frontends
• Help deliver Mission Control's next chapter: deploying and operating event brokers in customer-managed Docker/Kubernetes environments
• Investigate production issues using observability tooling (Datadog logs, metrics, and monitors) and follow them through from diagnosis to verified fix
• Write automated tests and contribute to epic-level quality plans — quality is designed in, not bolted on
• Use AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code) daily, and contribute reusable AI workflows that accelerate the whole squad
• Collaborate with product, platform engineering, and support teams to resolve field issues for real customers

What You'll Bring to the Role

• A solid foundation in Java (or a similar language) and the willingness to work across the stack — backend, front-end, and pipelines
• Working knowledge of REST APIs, relational databases, and automated testing
• Curiosity about cloud infrastructure: containers, Kubernetes, and public cloud services
• Experience using AI technologies and coding-assisted tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Codex
• A quality-focused mindset that advocates on behalf of the end user
• Strong communication — you can explain what failed, why, and what the plan is

Nice to Have Skills

• Experience with messaging systems (Solace, Kafka, RabbitMQ) or event-driven architecture
• Exposure to Kubernetes, Helm, or Docker-based deployment
• TypeScript/React experience
• Familiarity with observability platforms (Datadog, Grafana, etc.)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines
