Position Summary

In keeping with the mission statement of the hospital and the patient service unit, the nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for individual patients/families.

Main Responsibilities

• Effectively uses the nursing process
• Practices according to the standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Hospital, and the patient service unit
• Provides appropriate learning experiences for the patient and family to promote or maintain wellness, and to achieve an optimal quality of life
• Is accountable for maintaining competence while developing the quality of his/her professional nursing practice

Qualifications

• Experience in paediatric psychiatry (Preferred)
• Current Certification of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (Essential)
• Current CPR Certification (Essential)
• Demonstrated culturally sensitive approach to nursing care (Essential)
• Demonstrated strong family centered care skills (Essential)
• Demonstrated knowledge of mental health legislation, substitute decisions act, health care consent act, Personal Health Information Protection Act (Essential)
• Demonstrated knowledge of treatment modalities and experience with crisis intervention other appropriate combinations of education and experience, along with the demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position, may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience (Essential)
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and establish therapeutic relationships with clients and team member (Essential)
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (Essential)
• Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning (Essential)
• Evidence of self-motivation, enthusiasm, and flexibility (Essential)
• Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) (Essential)
• Bilingual (English/French) (Preferred)

Terms of Employment

You will be represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). This position will be based out of Ottawa. Location may be subject to change at any time at the discretion of the employer. All OPSEU members shall be granted an interview upon passing the pre-screening. Pre-screening might include testing.

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process. This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.

Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider. Candidates will be required to meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to the date of hire.
