About the Role

The Eating Disorders Discoveries Hub (the Hub) is a unit within CHEO RI that collaborates with clinicians, young people, families, policymakers and thought leaders to drive an evidence-based, integrated system of care for children, youth and families affected by eating disorders across Canada. Our work at the Hub focuses on engaged scholarship, advancing innovation, and co-designing systems and solutions with service providers and service users. As trusted leaders in the field, we:

• Generate and mobilize high quality research on eating disorders care for children and young people in Canada.
• Evaluate and translate this knowledge to inform policy and system transformation efforts across the country.
• Partner with key interest-holders to innovate and co-build discoveries that can improve the lives of those affected by pediatric eating disorders.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to collaborate with leaders and team members at the Hub. The Research Associate will contribute qualitative and quantitative research skills to a range of research projects in support of the Hub's generation of new knowledge/evidence in the field of pediatric eating disorders. The Research Associate has technical and methodological expertise, the ability to communicate research findings effectively, and skills in project management, from project inception to project completion. This role is an integral part of the Hub team and requires that the incumbent shows skill, integrity, professionalism and dedication in their work and interactions with colleagues and partners.

Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Hub's Director, Research, the Research Associate will:

• Lead and contribute to research components to advance projects in the field of pediatric eating disorders.
• Provide methodological expertise for research projects and conduct data analysis.
• Oversee ethics, data capture, data analysis and reporting of various research projects.
• Integrate, interpret and evaluate research findings to advance the goals of the Hub.
• Prepare manuscripts, reports, and presentations, and contribute to knowledge mobilization at the Hub.
• Contribute to grant writing and funding application preparation.
• Represent the Hub at internal and external meetings focused on pediatric eating disorders.
• Oversee and mentor students and volunteers housed at the Hub.
• Maintain positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues, partners and other interest-holders. Use appropriate and multi-pronged engagement strategies to engage with all experts and interest-holders.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

The Research Associate shows a demonstrated ability to:

• Oversee junior staff effectively, with a proven track record.
• Maintain a working knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation; general knowledge of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

• Doctorate (PhD) degree in relevant field (e.g., psychology, translational medicine, health sciences, epidemiology, etc.) or equivalent (Essential)
• Minimum 2 years' experience working in an applied research environment (Essential)
• Strong skills in both quantitative and qualitative research (Essential)
• Excellent knowledge a range of research methods and data management strategies (Essential)
• Knowledge of pediatric eating disorders and/or child and youth mental health (Preferred)
• Excellent computer skills, including advanced knowledge of research related software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Planner, etc.) (Essential)
• Advanced understanding and experience with popular statistical packages (e.g. SPSS, R, Python, Stata, SAS, NVivo, etc.) (Essential)
• Outstanding organization and time management skills (Essential)
• Outstanding critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills (Essential)
• Outstanding commitment to integrity and accountability (Essential)
• Ability to analyze and interpret data, and concisely communicate relevant concepts (Essential)
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment (Essential)
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision (Essential)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively share information with both technical and non-technical audiences (Essential)

Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may be substituted for the academic/experience requirements above.

Working Conditions

• Flexibility to work in a hybrid work model that would include both remote work and on-site work.
• On-site work is within CHEO RI, which may involve exposure to children and parents/caregivers.
• Minor exposure to disagreeable conditions (e.g. lack of privacy, frequent interruptions).
• May require attendance at evening meetings.
• May require occasional travel for conferences or meetings, with advance notice provided.

• Compliance with CHEO RI's occupational health, immunization, and health surveillance requirements, as applicable to the role and work environment.
• Completion of a Police Record Check, in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
