About Position

As a Regulated Heath Professional under the Regulated Health Professions Act, Pharmacy Technicians will provide services within their scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities reflect the primary expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive:

• Perform all responsibilities within the scope of practice for Pharmacy Technicians, in accordance with the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) Model Standards of Practice and the standards established by the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
• Understand and operate EpicElectronic Health Record system, Omnicell XT, Omnicell CPM, OCRA, PacMed, and other technology platforms that support medication dispensing and distribution functions.
• Participate in medication distribution activities and provide pharmacy support services to ensure accurate and efficient medication management.
• Act as a preceptor and provide support, guidance, and learning opportunities for pharmacy technician students and other learners.
• Participate in Best Possible Medication History Activities.
• Packaging, preparing and delivering pharmaceutical products to patient care units or other facilities as required. The role may involve lifting and transporting items weighing between 1 – 20 lbs.
• Promote high standards of performance and quality by modeling best practices and providing guidance to pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support personnel.
• Ensure all medication distribution processes, documentation requirements, and workflows are completed accurately and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Ensure appropriate quality controls are in place and communicate to pharmacy teams and facility partners in situations in which quality may have been compromised.
• Utilize good communication skills and possess the ability to multi-task.
• Perform duties in accordance with department procedures, professional standards, accreditation requirements, and applicable regulatory expectations.
• Maintain responsibility for the accurate, timely and efficient completion of assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the Royal.
• Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal's Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination Free policy.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement, patient safety, and pharmacy service initiatives as required.

Qualifications

• Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) is mandatory.
• Previous hospital experience is an asset.
• Experienced in performing pharmaceutical calculations.
• Familiar with commonly used health care terminology.
• Professional attitude, honest and dependable.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Attentive to details.
• Customer-service oriented.
• Familiar with pharmacy law, ethics, conduct related law, privacy and liability issues within pharmacy settings.
• Must successfully complete standard training upon hire, i.e. pharmacy systems, applicable technology, etc.
• Familiar with basic inventory skills related to storage, security and legal issues.

Language Requirements

English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.

Salary Range

Salary: $32.32 to $37.26 per hour
