Duties

Faculty members' responsibilities include, in varying proportions: (a) teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; (b) scholarly activities demonstrated through research and peer-reviewed publications; (c) service to the university community; and (d) supervision of graduate students.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of the discipline and academic unit, including graduate programs. To this end, the successful candidate must have established a rigorous research program that includes grants from funding agencies such as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) or possesses a clear strategy for developing an active research program.

The successful candidate will be required to teach in French at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Required Qualifications

Expertise in Franco-Ontarian literature and, more broadly, in the field of the literature of minority Francophone communities in Canada is required. The successful candidate will have recognized expertise in this field, enabling them to offer a diverse range of courses to Francophone students enrolled in all three university levels.

• A Ph.D. in Francophone Literatures or a related discipline by July 1st, 2027
• Have experience in university-level teaching and course development, whether in-person, online, or hybrid formats in the field of Canadian Francophone literatures
• Demonstrate a strong research record in Canadian Francophone literatures, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and scholarly presentations, along with the ability to secure external funding and supervise Master's theses and doctoral dissertations upon appointment
• Show a genuine interest in program development, community partnerships, and interdisciplinary initiatives
• Demonstrate an interest in pedagogical innovation

Salary and Benefits

Salary: The starting salary for an Assistant Professor is $99,377 (according to the scale in effect as of May 1, 2025).

Benefits: The University of Ottawa provides an extensive benefits package, which includes long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, supplementary health benefits, a pension plan, optional life insurance, and reimbursement for relocation expenses.
