You have a place at the Museum! About the position Reporting to the Vice-President, Strategic and Corporate Affairs, the DMMR is a key member of the Museum’s management team. They are responsible for developing and directing the Museum’s Marketing and Media Relations mandates to support the Museum’s corporate priorities. This includes the support required to achieve budgeted revenue targets for admissions, programs and other related areas, the initiation and negotiation of strategic partnerships and promotions that support and align with the Museum’s brand and contribute to the sales and marketing objectives. They are responsible for developing and implementing short-, medium- and long-term strategic and operational plans for the department. They are responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Marketing and Media Relations Department and lead a team of professionals to ensure the Canadian Museum of Nature achieves its marketing and media relations goals by planning, organizing, directing and controlling the activities of the department. They are also responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of corporate policy instruments relating to the Museum’s brand, marketing, media relations and communications activities. They also serve as a communications advisor to the President and CEO, providing strategic counsel and support for executive-level engagement with media, key stakeholders, and staff, including the development of briefing materials, key messages, and talking points, preparation for media interviews and public appearances. They sit as a member of the Museum’s Management Forum and contribute to strategic decision-making and the setting corporate objectives. They also represent the Museum with external organizations and clients. Ideal candidate The ideal candidate for this position is fluently bilingual (second language profile of CBC or higher) with a post-secondary education in a related field or an acceptable combination of education, formal and/or informal training, and experience plus several years of relevant progressive managerial experience in marketing, communications and media relations, preferably in a museum, cultural institution or similar industry with a strong earned revenue component. They are a critical thinker and problem solver with experience in developing, implementing and evaluating strategies and business plans and in translating strategies into operational plans. They also have experience in managing teams and projects, in budget and business planning and management, and in allocating and managing financial and other resources. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who demonstrates strong personal and professional integrity with solid values and ethics that are aligned to those of the institution.
