We are seeking a creative, dynamic, committed professional to join our team: OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY COORDINATOR Position Status: 1.0 Regular Full-time, 12 month work year Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week Affiliation: OSSTF District 25 - Educational Support Professionals (ESP) Salary range: $71,338 to $89,940 per annum (Level 9) Job Summary Under the direction of the Team Manager, Occupational Health and Safety, the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Coordinator is involved in various activities in support of the OCDSB OH&S management system; Coordinates and leads activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance and promotion of health and safety policies, procedures and initiatives in the District; Conducts H&S investigations, including critical injuries, workplace violence, environmental and occupational hygiene; coordinates emergency preparedness plans and is part of the emergency preparedness team; supports the Team Manager of OHS in implementing business goals, objectives and strategies; and provides leadership and support to division staff. Qualifications Completion of a community college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and a minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is required. Access to reliable transportation for traveling to schools or administrative sites. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario and Regulations, Ontario Environmental Protection Act and Regulations, the Ontario Fire Code, the Ontario Building Code and other relevant Acts, Regulations, Standards and OCDSB policies and procedures. Working knowledge of basic emergency management standards and procedures. Proficiency in monitoring and reviewing changes to relevant legislation, standards or other resources and recommending changes to District policies, procedures and initiatives, as necessary. Ability to liaise with external regulatory bodies (e.g., Ottawa Fire Services, Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, Ontario Ministry of Environment, etc) and manage submission of applicable documentation to ensure regulatory compliance. Knowledge of standard methods and procedures related to Occupational Hygiene, particularly in, but not limited to, the areas of indoor air quality, designated substances, noise monitoring, and ergonomics. Experience conducting research to support other investigations, including indoor air quality assessments; preparing written reports of results/findings, and making recommendations. Ability to communicate effectively in writing through report writing or investigations; and orally, by conducting workshops and presentations or providing advice to staff, at all levels. Ability to use tact, diplomacy and discretion in all interactions. Ability to act as a technical resource, and provide unbiased advice and guidance to employees at all levels of the OCDSB in resolving formal occupational health and safety concerns and work refusals. Ability to use initiative and use good judgment when making decisions which have a direct impact on the health and safety of staff and students; recognizing potential hazardous situations and recommending a course of action. Proficiency in the use of technology including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases and electronic mail. Experience developing electronic tools for gathering, organizing and storing data related to the H&S management system, including risk assessments, surveys, and databases. Strong organization and time management skills required to prioritize work demands, and schedule/organize training programs.
