An intensive, experiential-learning workshop that supports the development of interdisciplinary skills in the arts through creative and socially engaged practices. Through hands-on projects and experiential learning, students will explore diverse approaches that may include partnerships with cultural, social, or community organizations. Themes will vary. The course may be repeated when themes differ. Student receives a grade of S (satisfactory) or NS (non satisfactory).

The Art & Science of Wellbeing: The Wellbeing Action Challenge is an intensive, 1.5-credit experiential learning opportunity where undergraduate students from across uOttawa will work in interdisciplinary teams to explore how artistic practice and neuropsychological science can support individual and community wellbeing. Participants will identify a real-world wellbeing challenge and apply evidence-informed and arts-based approaches to design, prototype, and facilitate a live wellbeing intervention. Through hands-on activities involving mindfulness, emotional awareness, storytelling, collaborative art-making, and social connection, students will develop practical skills in creative problem-solving, collaboration, facilitation, and designing interventions with real-world impact.

Atelier intensif et expérientiel qui permet le développement de compétences interdisciplinaires en arts par des pratiques créatives et socialement engagées. Les étudiantes et étudiants y exploreront diverses approches pouvant inclure des projets pratiques et des partenariats avec des organisations culturelles, sociales ou communautaires. Thèmes variés. Le cours peut être répété si le thème est différent. L'évaluation se fera sur la base S (satisfaisant) ou NS (non satisfaisant).

L'art et la science du bien-être : le défi du bien-être en action (AHL 3550) est un programme intensif d'apprentissage expérientiel de 1,5 unité. Des étudiantes et étudiants de premier cycle de l'ensemble de l'Université d'Ottawa y travailleront en équipes interdisciplinaires afin d'explorer comment les pratiques artistiques et les sciences neuropsychologiques peuvent contribuer au bien-être individuel et communautaire.

Les personnes participantes cerneront un enjeu réel lié au bien-être et mettront en pratique des approches fondées sur des données probantes et sur les arts afin de concevoir, de prototyper et d'animer une intervention en matière de bien-être. Grâce à des activités pratiques portant notamment sur la pleine conscience, la conscience émotionnelle, la narration, la création artistique collaborative et les liens sociaux, elles développeront des compétences pratiques en résolution créative de problèmes, en collaboration, en animation et en conception d'interventions ayant une portée concrète.

Requirements

Ph.D. in an Arts-related discipline, interdisciplinary studies, or area of professional practice relevant to the course's theme. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to support interdisciplinary learning through experiential, creative, community-engaged, or applied approaches. Expertise related to the specific topic of the course offering is required. Course has variable topics and qualifications, which will be different for each theme offering.

Responsibilities

• Design and facilitate an innovation studio.
• Act as a liaison between the University of Ottawa and an external partner (private-sector employer, community organization, etc.) to define the real-world challenge that will be the focus of the activity.
• Guide interdisciplinary student teams and support their process of design, prototyping, and final presentation.
• Integrate experiential learning principles and the uOCompetencies framework.
• Evaluate student learning on a Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory basis.
• Provide bilingual (French and English) support and collaborate with the Career Development and Experiential Learning (CDEL/DCAE) team.

Dates

Fall 2026. The workshop will be held in person on:

• Friday, October 16, 2026 (5:30 p.m.– 9:30 p.m.)
• Saturday, October 17, 2026 (9 a.m.– 5 p.m.)
• Sunday, October 18, 2026 (9 a.m.– 5 p.m.)

The candidate will also have to ensure 4-5 hours of preliminary work/preparation by students to ensure that they have a firm understanding of the problematic area, methods and tools, etc.
